It’s no secret – the success of your event is measured by the experience.
Your event app is the one thing that attendees will see and use every day of the event, several times a day: at breakfast, at lunch, during sessions, at every session break, and in the evening. Make it great.
Great event apps:
- Load data in the background
Users will open your event app 8-12 times during the day. Time is precious. Make sure your app doesn’t download data and freeze the app every time it’s opened. The user experience will be slow, and the attendee will give up and not use the app. - Work offline, without Internet access

Events often have spotty wifi and 3G connections. Great event apps are designed to function even when there’s little to no Internet access. Test your app’s offline capabilities before you buy. Simply turn on airplane mode and try to use the app. You’ll quickly see what functionality requires an Internet connection or not. An attendee will always need access to their schedule, so make sure that’s working without Internet. - Sync schedules (without usernames and passwords)
Users never remember their username and passwords, so why have one in the app? Avoid the headache – a great app will enable users to sync their schedules across devices with just an email address, and avoid login confusion. - Search sessions by keyword
Attendees want to go to sessions that are valuable and interesting to them. Restricting users to timeslot-based browsing or pre-defined categories makes it difficult to locate the best sessions, so make it easy with keyword search. This applies to locating and selecting exhibitors in the event app as well. - Create schedules quickly
When browsing session titles, attendees can easily identify which sessions to attend. Save them a step and enable them to add sessions to their schedule directly from browsing session titles. - Share data with other apps and devices
A great event app recognizes that however attendees use the app, they’re ultimately at the event to share – and will enable attendees to sync schedules across devices, share schedules, export notes, and participate in social media. - Bundle events together
The most challenging thing for event marketers and attendees alike is finding this year’s app in the store, and the stress of store submissions. Make things easier for your attendees (and yourself) by choosing an event app that can house all your events, making your events top of mind for attendees year round.
Remember: the best way to learn about an event app is to download and use it.
